Fetter Health Care Network Receives $300,00 in Grant Funding from UnitedHealthcare Toward GroceryRx Program

Fetter Health Care Network (Fetter) announced today that it received $300,000 in grant funding from UnitedHealthcare to benefit its GroceryRx program. Fetter is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), providing quality, accessible and affordable health care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

“We are overwhelmed by UnitedHealthcare’s generosity in gifting us a $300,000 Empowering health grant,” said Aretha R. Jones-Powers, CEO of Fetter. “With their support, we can make an even bigger impact on the communities we serve. Specifically, we will put this donation toward our GroceryRx program to provide mobile farmers’ market services, weekly nutrition classes and food vouchers for Charleston and Lowcountry region patients.”

As a community health center, Fetter provides comprehensive services for insured and uninsured residents in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester Counties. Today, the network includes more than 20 different sites, a dental practice, medical labs and a pharmacy. Fetter is also currently hosting mobile COVID-19 testing sites in partnership with local municipalities to provide accessible and free testing to residents throughout the Lowcountry.

UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company, awarded $1 million in Empowering Health grants to eigh community-based organizations in South Carolina to expand access to care and address the social determinants of health for uninsured individuals and underserved communities. Fetter was one of the eight organizations selected as grant recipients alongside the American Heart Association, Golden Harvest Food Bank, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Lowcountry Food Bank, Lions Vision Services, South Carolina Primary Health Care Association and Big Red Barn Retreat.

“This unprecedented environment has compounded challenges faced by South Carolina’s most vulnerable residents and created further barriers to accessing the health care and services they need,” said Wanda Coley, vice president of strategy and execution, UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement of South Carolina. “Our support of these organizations in South Carolina through this UnitedHealthcare Empowering Health commitment will help provide critical aid and resources to the communities in South Carolina that need it the most.”

Fetter Health Care Network announces COVID-19 schedule updates for week of June 29

On Monday, June 29 Fetter Health Care Network (FHCN), announced updates to its upcoming COVID-19 testing schedule. The Federally Qualified Health Center has partnered with local government municipalities to host mobile COVID-19 respiratory collection test sites throughout the Lowcountry. The testing sites rotate to different locations throughout the Lowcountry each day, providing free and accessible walk-up and drive-up tests to community members.

Due to an increased volume in patients, FHCN has announced it will be moving its testing site for Wednesday, July 1 to Trident Technical College. The community health center had previously scheduled testing for this date to be held at Trident United Way and will now be moving its site to Trident Technical College in order to accommodate the increased patient sign-ups for testing. FHCN’s full upcoming schedule includes the following:

Fetter Health Care Network mobile COVID-19 testing schedule:

Date Time Location Address
6/30 9am – 4pm Marriott Hotel 4770 Goer Dr., North Charleston, SC
7/1 9am – 4pm Trident Technical College 7000 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC
7/8 8am – 1pm Charleston Southern University 9200 University Blvd., North Charleston, SC

“Our Fetter team has now administered more than 7,000 COVID-19 tests throughout the Lowcountry,” said Aretha R. Jones-Powers, CEO of FHCN. “Our team has been quick to be flexible in order to meet the needs of our surrounding communities and we are thankful to our local partners for hosting our mobile COVID-19 testing sites.”

Walk-up and drive-up testing is available at each site. Same-day testing is available; however, individuals are highly encouraged to get screened before arriving for quicker service by visiting FetterCovid19Screening.org or calling 1-800-365-7410. Operating hours and locations vary. A full schedule for all mobile sites can be found at FetterCovid19Screening.org.

Individuals who have a known exposure to COVID-19 or are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms can request a screening at FetterCovid19Screening.org or by calling 1-800-365-7410 to connect with a Fetter provider who will determine the need for testing. Tests will be given by appointments only and require a special, unique code. Individuals are asked to employ social distancing while waiting for testing and are requested to wear face coverings.

Currently, tests are given with no out-of-pocket cost to patients. All insurance providers in South Carolina are covering the cost of COVID-19 testing. Patient insurance information will be processed in order to complete testing. No co-pays or deductibles are being charged. All patients will be served.

Fetter Health Care Network Receives Emergency Grant from Direct Relief to Strengthen the Healthcare Safety Net covering Charleston, Dorchester, Colleton and Berkeley Counties

Fetter Health Care Network (FHCN) announced today an infusion of $50,000 in emergency grant funding from the medical aid organization Direct Relief, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers.

FHCN was among 518 federally qualified health centers to receive funding this week through Direct Relief’s $25 million COVID-19 Fund for Community Health, which recognizes the profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the finances, services, staff and patients of community health centers.

FHCN will use the funds to help support the cost of health care expansion for vulnerable populations, as well as the operational expenses for COVID-19 testing sites in Charleston, Dorchester, Colleton and Berkeley counties.

“Access to primary care is what keeps people healthy and out of the hospital, and the frontline work of Fetter Health Care Network and other nonprofit community health centers across the U.S. is more critical than ever with the onset of COVID-19,” said Direct Relief President and CEO Thomas Tighe. “Direct Relief is doing everything possible to bolster the work and support the staffs at the safety-net health facilities on which so many patients and their families rely for excellent care and trust for advice in this public health emergency.”

Nearly 30 million (1 in 12) of the country’s most vulnerable residents — including 1 in 3 individuals living in poverty, 1 in 5 Medicaid beneficiaries, and 1 in 9 children — rely on federally qualified health centers like Fetter Health Care Network for their health care. That number is expected to rise as more people lose employer-sponsored insurance.

“We are grateful for this critical and immediate support as community health centers work hard to keep communities safe during an unprecedented pandemic,” said Tom Van Coverden, President & CEO of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). “We are also deeply appreciative of our longstanding partnership with Direct Relief in these uncertain times and their efforts to ensure that health centers confronting multiple challenges in underserved communities have the resources when and where they need them. We know that many donors and contributors have helped to make this fund possible, and we further extend our appreciation to all of them.”
