Charleston, SC – Fetter Health Care Network (Fetter) has received funding through the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to acquire an additional mobile medical unit. This new unit will enhance Fetter’s ongoing outreach efforts, improving access to vital, high-quality healthcare services throughout Lowcountry communities.

The new expansion was made possible via close collaboration with MUSC, which worked with state legislature Reps. Wendell Gilliard and Leon Stavrinakis to secure funding for the new mobile unit through state appropriations. Funds were appropriated within MUSC’s state budget and have since been passed on to Fetter.

These efforts were also supported by Charleston Area Justice Ministry’s advocacy for public support of a mobile unit operated by Fetter to address under-resourced, underserved tri-county communities and residents.

“It is important we champion health equity in Charleston,” said Rep. Gilliard. “I am unwavering in my commitment to bringing vital funding to the Charleston Area Justice Ministry’s annual Nehemiah assembly and Fetter Health Care Network’s mobile clinics, ensuring rural communities thrive with access to essential healthcare. Together, we will build a healthier, more equitable future.”

“With the new funding for this important initiative, we are making sure that our community members have access to the highest quality of healthcare, no matter where they may be,” said Rep. Stavrinakis. “This is but one more step in ensuring the well-being and visibility of all Lowcountry citizens.”

This addition to Fetter’s existing mobile unit program will increase the nonprofit’s outreach effort capabilities, directly uniting Lowcountry citizens with essential, quality healthcare services that would be otherwise inaccessible.

“Our team is incredibly grateful for this generous support and collaboration,” shared Fetter CEO Dr. Aretha Polite-Powers. “This new unit will be invaluable to improving the well-being of patients and increasing access to affordable quality care across the Lowcountry. We are grateful to all who have advocated for healthier outcomes in our community.”
